Frequently Asked Questions

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a hands-on treatment focused on increasing mobility and decreasing pain. Some conditions treated with physical therapy are: back pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, wrist/hand pain (carpal tunnel syndrome), posture problems (scoliosis) and knee/ankle/foot disorders. As a patient, you will receive an individualized plan of care focused on the physical therapy treatment of your specific condition. The main goal of physical therapy is to relieve pain while developing, maintaining and restoring maximum movement and functional ability.

What is a physical therapist?

A physical therapist provides hands-on treatment to guide patients back to normal movement in their joints and muscles. They also instruct patients about specific exercises to help heal and strengthen the body. A physical therapist’s treatment plan may include, but is not necessarily limited to, joint mobilization, soft tissue massage, heat, ice, ultrasound and/or electrical stimulation. A physical therapy treatment plan almost always includes therapeutic exercises for strengthening and/or stability.

How do I receive physical therapy?

To receive physical therapy, you can either be referred by your doctor/specialist or with the recent law change called “Direct Access,” you may now be treated by a qualified physical therapist for an evaluation and to begin physical therapy treatment, or the therapist may refer you to your doctor for further diagnostic testing before beginning therapy.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

You may  download your paperwork from this website and fill it out prior to your appointment, or you may fill out your paperwork when you arrive for your appointment. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes to therapy because you will be exercising.

Does my insurance cover physical therapy services?

Most insurance companies pay for physical therapy services; however, each plan will vary in co-pays, out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles and how many visits are allowed per year. You may check with your insurance carrier for details or our office staff will be happy to verify your physical therapy benefits for you.
